How long have you played derby?
4 1/2 years I started in in December of 2010.
What is the hardest moment you have over come since joining derby? What have been some of your proudest derby accomplishments?
The hardest thing I faced in roller derby, was overcoming my game anxiety. It used to take me a while to get my head all the way in the game and not be nervous. My proudest accomplishment came at the beginning and end of last year’s season (2014) I played a team at the first of the year who had my number, by which I mean I was unable to make any headway as a jammer and they were throwing me around like crazy. One of the worst games I have ever played. We played the same team for the last game of the season, and I was unstoppable as a jammer. They were teasing that I seemed tired and should let someone else jam, so they wouldn’t have to deal with me. I killed it and won MVP jammer. It was, hands down, the best game I’ve ever played.
Who would you say is your biggest derby supporter or ‘superfan’?
My husband, Ryan Colvard. He’s been at every game I’ve ever played in, but one. I met him when he became my previous league’s announcer, so we’ve been linked to derby from day one.
Have you had any injuries from playing roller derby?
I had a minor tear in my MCL and I broke my wrist, though I played in week 4 of my 6 week healing period.
What is something that most people don’t know about you?
Having to inflict pain on myself, for instance, if I had to wash out a wound, makes me faint. I can take all kinds of outside damage, but the thought of plucking my own eyebrows gives me the shakes and sweats.
If you could have a theme song, what would it be?
“Boogie Shoes” by KC and the Sunshine Band
Who is your derby idol?
Hauss the Boss
Anything else you’d like the world to know?
Hot dogs are Ambrosia from the gods. Don’t let anyone else tell you different.
